1. Be Aware of the Road

Most experts recommend the "3 second rule." Pick an object ahead of you and count three seconds from when the vehicle in front of you passes that object. If you reach it before three seconds, you should slow down. At night or when there is bad weather, you should increase this distance to ensure you will have enough time to brake.

We all have times when we are in a hurry and want to drive over the speed limit, however this is a major causes of accidents. Make sure to follow the speed limit to stay safe while driving. During bad weather or when there are unsafe road conditions, make sure to driver slower to avoid accidents. Excessive speeding is the causes for 1/3 of all accidents, so always follow the speed limit.

4. Stay Alert and Awake
Driving when you are tired or fatigued can lead to accidents. Make sure to never drive when you are tired and pull off the road for a break or a nap anytime you find yourself tired or dosing off at the wheel.

Talking on a cell phone, texting, eating or drinking, or doing anything else that may distract you from the road are a leading cause of accidents. Whenever you are operating a vehicle steer clear of any distractions and keep your eyes on the road.
